Creative Process: New Year’s Resolution

To start, we at MKJ want to extend our readers a warm welcome to the New Year!

When it came time to create a post to ring in 2017, one of the first things that came to mind was the infamous New Year’s Resolution. Each year, many people find themselves taking the opportunity to start fresh by setting a resolution—we just so happen to think it’s a great idea!

Our goal for this post was to take one of the most popular (and personal) resolutions: to get healthy, and illustrate it in a way that felt fun and appropriate to the season. However, when it came time to pair our exercising snowman with some copy, we realized there was a challenge at hand: how do we express the true message?

In no way did we want our jumping snowman to read, “Hey, your resolution should be to lose weight.” So, after putting our heads together, the message became clear: It doesn’t matter what your resolution is; all that matters is that you created it for an important reason, so aim to be resolute in your resolution!

As part of our continuing effort to share our process with our amazing followers, this holiday, we created a progression series to show the creation of our snowman! Take a peek below to see how this little guy was created!

We’d love to hear from you! What are some of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2017?
